Yes, it has put a bit of a downer on the day.  Poor horse.  I wonder if it had an underlying problem that they weren't aware of.

Yeah, I was all set to skid in sideways with apologies for being late and chuck Deb a berocca....then it just didnt seem appropriate Smiley Sad

A sad end.

I agree tttt and I'm feeling sad too but maybe more so... appropriately! *scratches head and eats more cheese*

Spent the day with my daughters and some of their friends..I put $5 on the nose for my giddup so I think I  won $40+...tragic loss of a champion horse and the other one that hurt it`s leg..it has made the day very sad..fly high with your giddup buddiesSmiley Sad

Horses are really pushed to lthe limits arnt they..Made me think back to the days of Dulcify who broke his pelvis and was destroyed..

Sometimes i cant bring myself to watch the race for that reason

Sadly Araldo has also died.

One last year and two this year in the Cup.

We were a horse family, mum dressage trained thoroughbreds and she always said they push them too hard here in Australia.

Apparently racing in England they are paced but here it's nearly flat out all the way.

That's really nice, paints

Two horses dead after one race. It's sad.

I presume that there will be investigations and I hope that any action to prevent future deaths will be taken.

I heard on the BBC World Service earlier that banning the use of whips and banning the racing of two year old horses would help.

I don't know ... but it was hard to hear news.

Anyway ... up to the point of getting that news, it was a fun thread and I want to say thanks to everyone for participating.

My cup day turned into quite a long one and I'm feeling a little poorly this morning 😞
I backed Who Shot the Barman for a place so came out a tiny but ahead 🙂
Thanks katy for a good fun day at the races.

Terribly sad about Admire Rakti and Araldo. That kinda puts things into perspective.
