Who killed Osama bin Laden?

WASHINGTON – A growing number of former Navy SEAL team members claiming to have fired the shot that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has sparked a controversy within the uniformed ranks over military codes governing the role of America’s “silent warriors.”

Two years ago, Matt Bissonette, the author of the book “No Easy Day,” said in his account that he fired the shot that killed Mr. Bin Laden. Over the past week, overlapping accounts of the fatal shot have emerged.

 

On Thursday, a member of the military’s famed SEAL Team Six became the second member of the elite group since the 2011 raid in Pakistan to claim he was the shooter who killed Osama Bin Laden.Robert O’Neill, 38, told the Washington Post Thursday that he was the SEAL to fire the round that ended Mr. Bin Laden’s life.

 

Later Thursday, the New York Times reported that a third, unnamed Navy SEAL was the one who killed the al Qaeda leader.
