Obama chews gum during APEC summit, irks Chinese with uncouth behavior
“We made this meeting so luxurious, with singing and dancing, but see Obama, stepping out of his car chewing gum like an idler,” wrote Yin Hong, a professor of journalism at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, USA Today reported.
USA Today also posted video on its Website of Mr. Obama clearly chewing gum while walking into one APEC event.
President Obama appeared to blow off Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit of world leaders on Tuesday.
The rebuff came as the two leaders entered a hall in a conference center near Beijing, China, with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Putin remarked toward Obama.
"Yes," Obama agreed, avoiding eye contact in a manner watching reporters called cold.
