Do You Remember

When the supermarkets specials had a limit on how many you could buy ??

they still do in some instances

Do you remember when supermarkets did not sell meat?

Hi Grandmoon--think the limit in the old days was to stop the

small corner stores from buying cheaper than from the same suppliers.

Once the big supermarkets -squeezed  the corner stores out and most of them closed down

-it dosnt matter any more..............................Richo.

I remember when they were called grocers

and you wrote your list, gave it to them, sat down,

ate the broken bikkies from the bottom of the tin,

and waited for them to do your shopping for you.

Department stores used to have a chair to sit on while the staff member wrapped your item in brown paper and tied it with string with a loop for carrying.  Well, I was with my mother, when that happened, I am not that old.

I remember going to the convenience store (we called it a dairy) and buying a glass bottle of milk for 4c.

I think it was a pint (looked a similar size to the 600ml plastic bottles we now have.

I also remember, buying a certain amount of lollies for 5c, quite a good sized bag we would get, rather than a certain amount PER LOLLY!

And fish and chips on a Friday night was the treat, pretty sure it was about 40c for the fish, and ths chips were basically a Free Side, used to cost about a $1.20

S****** - I am OLD

When I first started working as a checkout chick there was no conveyor belt you had a wooden rack you used to have to pull the groceries up with, then shot them down to the packer.

S****** - I am OLD

Not that old apparently..........you're quoting dollars and cents.

Woe is me

Was that a rolling rack harley - our corner store had one, like lots of rolling pins lined up to make it easy to slide the items along.......

I had forgotten that...
