Should We Have this Law

I have never seen this charge before. this man was charge with "assault and battery on a person over 60.

 

 

Cameron Shenk, 26, of Boston, was charged with attempted murder, mayhem, assault and battery on a person over 60, assault and battery on a police officer, lewd and lascivious conduct and malicious destruction to property.

Unless it carries more punishment then what is the difference whether I (69) am attacked or my daughter (45).

It is still assault!!

I think it is because we of greater maturity aren't as well equipped to defend ourselves.

Perhaps it's because I, 32yo woman have more of chance of defending myself, and am more inclined to do so, than my 70 something year old great Aunt who recently sat through a home invasion. Or the 75 yo man recently hurt so badly in his home that he is too frightened to return. The 80yo who was bashed so badly with the vacuum cleaner hose he held to fend off his attackers he still has to live with his daughter.
Did no one ever teach these people 'pick on someone your own size'? The bashing/intimidation/home invasions of our elderly is the highest of cowardice and makes me sick.

While I do agree that committing these acts against anyone, no matter the age etc, is abhorrent, the repeated targeting of the elderly, due for the most part to frailty, hearing loss (less likely to detect intruders), has to end.

Well it does kinda imply that it's ok to assault someone who is not over 60. 

 

According to police and judges, it's ok for anyone to assault me, sometimes i even go to jail for being attacked, and it would be the same if i was over 60 nevermind what the law says.

 

When everything is a crime, everyone will be a criminal. When the laws don't apply to police, nothing they ever do can be considered wrong.
