Perhaps it's because I, 32yo woman have more of chance of defending myself, and am more inclined to do so, than my 70 something year old great Aunt who recently sat through a home invasion. Or the 75 yo man recently hurt so badly in his home that he is too frightened to return. The 80yo who was bashed so badly with the vacuum cleaner hose he held to fend off his attackers he still has to live with his daughter.
Did no one ever teach these people 'pick on someone your own size'? The bashing/intimidation/home invasions of our elderly is the highest of cowardice and makes me sick.
While I do agree that committing these acts against anyone, no matter the age etc, is abhorrent, the repeated targeting of the elderly, due for the most part to frailty, hearing loss (less likely to detect intruders), has to end.
