Probably, the officers antagonized the partygoers - long before any violence occurred, prompting the partygoer to defend his rights as a fine, upstanding, innocent citizen, after having being oppressed by the cruel and tyrannical police officers - who naturally, were on the prowl, just looking for a chance to exert their power!
They're all the same, these police officers. All around the world, looking for and instigating trouble with perfectly innocent bystanders - none of whom have ever done anything wrong in their lives...just victims of the cruel police state - eh, Joanie?
