That is a pretty strange thing to say.

He thought he had a child when he was a teen ( that the baby was his).... never bothered to pay any child support for the boy, for the years betwen when that chid was born until he was 18. He heard from the boy/man, when he was about 27 yrs old.

Did he tell his family about the baby? I don't think he did.

Maybe the mother didn't ask/put in for child support? Oh, that can't be right.

Doesn't really matter anyway.. he had what he thought was his child, spent a few minutes with the baby after it was born and carried on with his life. as usual.

You and I don't know what happened in those very personal moments, Am, so it's not for us to speculate.

The child was proven not to be his, in circumstances which would have been excruciatingly embarrassing for those concerned.

The truth remains that Mr Abbott does not have an illegitimate child.

And anyway, we don't call children "illegitimate" in this day and age.
