BUT, while i say that, i think there is much more humane ways to put a person to death

a firing squad tears the body apart.

i know theres some contraversy about failed and botched executions in the us, but there just has to be a less violent and

You are only hearing the bad things, the things the media want you to see, many many Australians go to Bali, I myself go at least twice a year, I rarely see these Bogans, I'm rarely ever in Kuta at night and I try to avoid schoolies.
I do agree that Myuran has done a wonderful job of helping the Indonesians in jail, I don't want to see him dead BUT I will not boycott, I will take art suplies to the prison and hope they continue his work.

I returned from a week in Bali yesterday.  I was astonished how many Balinese people I met who apologised for the pending Jokowi ordered executions.  I did not meet any Balinese person in 7 days who thought these two should be executed after being on death row for 10 years, but that said, apart from that particular policy, everyone was happy with his performance thus far, in particular his efforts to stamp out corruption.  I am not stupid enough to think there are not people who dislike him and his policies, but we did not meet any of them. 

 

I stayed in Sanur.  Same as the last few times we have stayed there over the past few years, almost no Australians are there, in comparison to earlier years.  Many Chinese, Koreans, Taiwanese and from the European bloc.  I doubt that an Australian boycott of Bali will be much noticed in view of the greatly increased number of visitors from other countries. 

 

As someone who is opposed to the death penalty anywhere, and particularly after the inmates have been on death row for 10 years, I will boycott Bali for a time - that act is much less about Bali than it is about me - I think you should stand up (or boycott) for what you believe, and I intend to, but I expect it's effect to be nil to anyone else except me - it is about self respect and knowing what you do or dont believe in. 

 

Tourism and foreign aid are separate entities.  IMO and despite my own boycott if this atrocity goes ahead, I fervently hope Australia continues to provide humanitarian aid to whomever needs it, be it in Bali or anywhere else.

100% agree with you re the boycott of Bali and Indonesia. as for it being a thread killer well that's your opinion and your welcome to it but why you want to is passing strange.

 

This thread is and will always be about state sanctioned murder in the most horrific manner (is there any other manner ?) and most of the people on this thread do not agree with it and have said so.

 

There is a glimmer of hope, just a glimmer, that the Indo's may be trying to find a way not to totally offend Australia and its people and the concocted delays show that.

 

The work done under the radar has been massive and pointing out what a good friend Australia is and always has been is part of the diplomatic world and it sit's well with Australians who are fed up with propping up a regime who is rotten to the core with corruption, intends to kill Australians and any other foreign national,  that was  the political platform of a politician trying to get elected and that, in itself, is appalling on all levels.

I think you are spot on there. Even though some posters made snide remarks when I commented on this earlier in the thread

because they couldn't believe the Abbott Gov't would work hard behind the scenes.

 

A lot of favours are likely to have been called in, political, military.
