why are you so pro culling koalas. We are not talking about other animals, we are talking about koalas here

That was Puckapunyal Army camp - or one of them was.

They died in the thousands of starvation because they lived the life in that place, plenty of food, no predators, endless supply of water and just out bred what the environment could hold.

Want be long before the weak old and sick humans are culled, so the strong young ones can live.

Well, I am sure that where you live now, once upon the time were gum trees and koalas and kangaroos, and other creatures.    As population grows and people want more houses, some areas will be built on, and that is no good news for the animals.  But most wildlife cannot live with us, those who adapt and are happy to live in our garden quickly become pests.  Best solution is to keep national parks for the wildlife, and not allow them to be logged, but once area is inhabited by humans, the wildlife numbers have to be controlled.  If they are not, the whole local population will become unsustainable.

at least the govt. has come out into the open about it now and are saying they are looking for options

Because I have seen when you have animals that breed up way over what the environment can carry sutainably and

it is not a pretty sight what occurs, dead and dying animals in their hundreds from starvation.

 

So you have a population that started small and the envirnment they are in could sustain them.

Obviously this group of Koala's, as stated in the articles do not like moving to other gum trees,

preferring to sit and eat in the Manna Gums.

 

The end result is, they eat, sleep and breed and eventually the numbers get too high and nature takes it's course.

Man has had to intervene to put them out of their misery before more die.

 

 

So I am PRO culling the sick and dying in small numbers so overall, more survive in the future which is

what occurs.

Look at it this way or another way of putting it - EVERY leaf that is eaten by a Koala THAT DIES is a leaf NOT available for the others

that survive. And as has been shown, the amount of food is limited so why not try to make sure the food,is available for those who are going to survive.

and something that we touched on earlier in this thread is that there are not enough areas left where koalas can live, we shouldn't be confining them just to some national parks where they are going to become over populated

I don't know if it is suitable or the right type of gum.

But if you introduce them to an area, you are changing the Balance of nature so something else will have to give.

 

 

You can't just go willy nilly introducing animals into a new area on a whim. If it was any other species,

the Greenies would be up in arms over introducing it.

Hope voluntary euthanasia will be legalised before i get too decrepit, or I will have to kill myself while I still have strength to do it. 

 

When i was in hospital some years ago, there was a very old lady and they used wheel her down the corridor for her bath, and you could hear her screaming all the way, shouting "No, no, please, no bath"  The bath room had row of showers and 2 large rooms with bath and harness to lower totally disabled people in.  Once I went to have a shower just as the nurses were lowering the old lady in the bath, and this time the door was left open, and I just got glimpse of her body size of 7 years old child, just skin and bones and huge bedsore on her buttocks.    There is NO way I would want to end up like that.

Debra, the prob is that while there is an abundance of food, they will continue to increase in population and the same probs will simply re occur. I am NOT pro killing any native animal but watching them slowly starve to death is a far worse option than culling.
