I now have an IR Torch (Infra Red) as well that lights up out to about 400 metres so it is like daylight ! LOL
Then one wonders why you get up so early.

No relaxing for us today, too much to get done outside. Some people like renovating, some dont, we love it. So great to sit back and look at all the progress we have made since we have been here. Very happy with our choice of paint as well, each to their own guess. We used the paint that was recommended for the jobs we need to do. Will also use it for the other walls, we get around to painting them.

I never thought about using an undercoat / prep coat Az! The original paint was in good knick so it was just a colour change.,, wish I had...
I will definitely do so for the other bathroom, toilet and laundry (currently a nice sageish green but they will be white as well) - I really thought that using a good quality paint I would get away with the usual 2 coats - but on checking again this morning it looks like I will be doing a FOURTH coat ...
*sigh*
I love tibouchinas but I heard somewhere that the berries are very poisonous to dogs - and having a goofy boxer boy who likes pruning shrubs and plants I don't think I'll be planting any. In our southern property I have only one surviving rose bush, a Mock Orange and some Elephant ears after years of tenants - hope these aren't toxic as well?
Absolutely love the idea of the pallet garden! They look so neat! AND nowhere for a certain dog to dig big holes!! How do you construct them, Bushie? I can see this idea being our new easy care veggie patch ![]()
I've never been a morning person so early morning walks happen about as often as blue moons, but the idea of night vision glasses is intriguing!

The pallets gardens are easy, you can go as high as you like with them.
Easy instruction using 4 pallets
1 Tack shade cloth to the underside of the bottom pallet to stop the grass growing through the base
2 Lay pallet on the ground, shade cloth side down
3 Place another pallet on top it
4 Take the next 2 pallets and remove every 2nd board from 1 side of each pallet and the middle board from the other side, you dont have to do this but it makes the planting area wider.
5 Tack shade cloth to the underside of 1 of the pallets to keep the dirt from falling through. Place this pallet on top of the other 2 pallets with the shade cloth side down
6 Place the 4th pallet on the top to the stack
7 Take the boards you have removed and tack each one over the outside gaps, to keep the dirt inside.
We are going to paint to out side of the pallets to make them look nicer but it's isnt necessary .... If you want to make more than one garden you can either butt them up together or leave a gap so you can walk between each garden.
Im one part of the yard, I am putting two gardens side by side with brick paving around and between them ..... I am also putting another 3 gardens in another part of the yard with brick paving done same as the others two gardens.
Hope that helps

Another great day to be outside working, so pleased we don't get the continual heat here, too much to get done outside atm. Raised veggie pallets gardens are coming together nicely, laid some bricks between them yesterday, looks so much neater, than bare dirt.
Not my pic, but gives an idea of what we are trying to achieve
What a good idea to use pallets upside down. I have a young friend who has 6 or 8 pallets in her front yard (deep ones) and has a fruit tree in each one.

b3 I had a variety of elephant ear in Sydney, a little person of about 4, decided to pick one and put her fingers in the mouth later on and "burnt" her mouth. So be aware of that.
Love mock orange - very hardy too.
I'm a believer of Zinsser 1-2-3 in the paint preparation arena.

Progress so far with ours, still have to add the outside boards and paint them
