Science is often amended.
Christian belief is actually amended quite often, except for those who think they have been infallible for the last 2,000 years that is. That's why there are protestants and why, as truth becomes clearer (as predicted by Jesus) more people are recognising that the mainstream religions are more to do with their own traditions than teaching the truth and that they do not (and never did) have God's blessing.
