My mum was a telephonist.  In the days of operators directing all calls to where they needed to go.  We used to larf cos she told us how she used to have to interrupt the calls with "three minutes, are you extending?" Every three minutes. Imagine these days if we had an operator interrupting our calls every three minutes...lol

I agree with the OP. Telstra sucks, the bigger they became the more sucky they became.  I stopped using this company a few years ago, will never go back, would rather go without internet and phones if I had to use them as a provider.  

In one company I worked for I'd fill in at reception and they had the old fashioned plug and cord switchboard.  I loved working it.  It made me feel like I was in an old black and white movie.

Yep, the days when we dialled with the rubber-tipped pencil, so as not to break a nail.

Just remembered the uniformed girls who went from office to office cleaning peoples handsets of "Brylcream, VO5, and other nasties."

OMG Memories! I worked as a telephonist at Foyles Bookshop in London in 1961 There were two of us and we were flat out all the time.
