Not for profit is is NOT a business, it's an organisation  .... Can NOT make a profit

Australian Tax Office info

Non-profit clause

'The assets and income of the organisation shall be applied solely in furtherance of its above-mentioned objects and no portion shall be distributed directly or indirectly to the members of the organisation except as bona fide compensation for services rendered or expenses incurred on behalf of the organisation.'

Dissolution clause

'In the event of the organisation being dissolved, the amount that remains after such dissolution and the satisfaction of all debts and liabilities shall be transferred to another organisation with similar purposes which is not carried on for the profit or gain of its individual members.'

A non-profit organisation can still make a profit, but this profit must be used to carry out its purposes and must not be distributed to owners, members or other private people.

No need to argue at all....... very clear... unless you are intimating that the ATO is wrong?

well, it's odd, some posts removed.... mine included but I posted nothing reportable, unless I quoted that poster.......

So a report has come out saying Asustralians need to be careful which charaties they give to as some of the funds will end up in the hands of terrorists.

Yet people still think that halal certification fund wont?

Halal certification is worth billions of dollars. Muslims, who can afford to, must pay zakat (2.5% of their income. And who gets this zakat money?

  • Those living without means of livelihood , the poor
  • Those who cannot meet their basic needs , the needy
  • To zakat collectors
  • To persuade those sympathetic to or expected to convert to Islam , recent converts to Islam and potential allies in the cause of Islam
  • To free from slavery or servitude , slaves of Muslims who have or intend to free from their master by means of a kitabah contract
  • Those who have incurred overwhelming debts while attempting to satisfy their basic needs , debtors who in pursuit of a worthy goal incurred a debt
  • Those fighting for a religious cause or a cause of God or for Jihad in the way of Allah and for Islamic warriors who fight against the unbelievers but are not part of salaried soldiers.
  • Wayfarers, stranded travellers  travellers who are traveling on an Islamic goal but cannot reach their destination without financial assistance

Non Muslims can get it, but only after the needs of the Muslims have been met.

After funding the poor muslims, the Islamic schools, the mosques, the "fighters" etc, i would doubt much is being given to non muslims, if any

But why would any self respecting  Christian accept it anyway? How could they be sure some sneaky Muslim hadn't prayed over it before dispatching it?

self respecting christian?

are you suggesting christians who accept

money from muslims have no self respect?

People need to educate themselves on where, and to whom, they give their money and be vigilant that it will be used for the right purpose.

  • Money donated by Australians to charities could be funding extremism
  • An investigation by AUSTRAC revealed funds may end up in wrong hands
  • Government agencies warn people to be careful with their donations
  • Charities Commission urges people to donate to registered organisations
