I have the books I want, here. If I want to hold a page open with a cup of tea (and the possibility of a circular stain on the page) then I do. This is my book. I've done the Deceased Estate thing, believe me, the books that I hold to be so precious and beautiful are going to get stuffed in a box and given to charity. This is how it works, your dreams die with you. I have my technical books, I have my well thumbed histories, I have a scattered assortment of Heinleins and Asimovs that I inherited from my Father, and keep, simply, because I love the cover artwork. I don't feel the need to go to a place whose architecture, and layout, make me feel uncomfortable.
I'm going to say it, the local library gives me the creeps. The books, I'm sure are great, but the place itself makes me want to run, and keep running.
Not every wall has a shelf, and not every shelf is crammed with toys and books. Close to it, though.
