Brighton, you can some times use the same sim or if it is different size the shop will use an adapter or cut it to fit the new to just transfer your contacts.

Then you get a new sim with your old number for that phone and then transfer all your contacts to the new sim.

Simples. 

I use prepaid as I only text and occasionally have calls. Usually top up once every 2 months.

Thanks kopes.....  As I want to use a Virgin sim the phone would need to be unlocked first?
