You're right, Tas, it's the aliens.

How could I have overlooked that?

I remember the hours that my friends and I devoted to sneaking out into the back yard, late at night, and watching the sky.

Every night, at about the same time, they'd fly over, describing a perfect arc from horizon to horizon, a clear, bright light.

We knew it wasn't an aeroplane because it happened in the early hours of the morning, and it was too slow for space junk or a meteor.

Nobody had the heart to tell us that it was a low orbit weather satellite, ha ha.

To us, it was aliens, proof positive that Star Wars wasn't just a movie, ha ha.

There was a place I used to live in that had venetian blinds, the kind with a long cord on the side so you could pull them up, or just as easily release them.

Releasing the blinds was a noisy process, ha ha.

I remember that because the only guaranteed way to get the cat that lived there off my bed was to release the blinds.

I know it doesn't sound as good as "Release the hounds!" but it worked, nonetheless, ha ha.
