I'm more don't mess with the status quo if it aint broke, than an actual royalist. They can't be worse than the ineffectual weasels we've got in our current government and opposition, none of which IMO deserve to be in charge of an Oz republic.
My Dad would have agreed with you. He used to say the advantage of a constitutional monarch for a head of state was that, although they don't hold any real political power, they occupy a position that nobody else can fill. Looking at the current situation in America, I reckon he was spot on.
