I had the window open because it was a bit warm...
I could hear what sounded like someone enjoying, savouring, indeed, a packet of potato chips...
Crunch... crunch... brief pause... crunch... crunch...
Followed by a longer pause...
And then, there it was again... Crunch... crunch... brief pause... crunch... crunch...
Just out the back...
I had to look...
The possums were walking on dry leaves... ha ha.
Crunch... crunch... that's the front feet... then there's a short pause and crunch... crunch... that's the back feet... ha ha.
It might be my small hours of the morning, but it's their middle of the day, so of course they're moving around... ha ha.
And how do I know there was a "They"? ha ha.
I heard one set of feet in the leaves... then I heard another set of feet in the leaves... then shortly after that I heard a very loud, deliberate, thump on the roof and an indignant "Eep!" followed by the sound of little feet running... ha ha.
There's a panel up on the pergola roof that's never sat quite flat, so it creaks like old floorboards... ha ha.
It must be that the panel is at one of those pivotal points where you could go left, you could go right, you could go forward or back, or it could just be that possums enjoy making the creaking noise, so they sit on the panel and move from side to side, ha ha.
Either way, the creaking alerted me to "a presence"... ha ha.
A presence who made their way down to the big table and very noisily lapped up the creamed corn.
I've heard cats lapping up milk, but that's nothing on a possum...
In here defence she didn't have her elbows on the table, so I couldn't really tell her off for her terrible table manners... ha ha.
And a brief reminder to the cockatoos... if I say "Fingers", that's a warning that you're getting too close to them, rather than an invitation to get too close to them... ha ha.

Tell me again why it is that a slice of toast only has four sides...? ha ha.

"Baby" sparrow, who's at that "Feed Me! Feed Me! Watch me do the Feed Me! dance... Now Feed Me!" stage was sitting on the rim of the birdbath...
To his left was one of his long suffering parents... ha ha.
"Feed Me! Feed Me!" said the little sparrow And the parent shoved a chunk of food into the waiting, open beak...
The little sparrow turned to the bird on his right, and danced the "Feed Me!" dance...
Which didn't have the desired effect, as the mynah bird, standing there, gave the little sparrow a quizzical look, and not much else... ha ha.
Mostly, the sparrows are happy to hop around looking for food.
But there's one...
A girl sparrow...
I'll be sitting on the bench and she'll land on the big plastic pot opposite...
When she does, she makes a big deal of looking around to see if there's any food, and if there isn't any, she looks straight at me then tilts her head to one side...
Yes, she looks very cute... ha ha.
There's been a couple of times when I've come out the back door and Surprise, Surprise, there she is... ha ha.
"I just happened to be on the other side of the lattice"....
Of course you did... ha ha.
I think someone might have a little bit of a girl sparrow crush on me... ha ha.
Either that or she's cold and calculating and has worked out that she can get a good amount of food out of me without too much effort... ha ha.
