@chameleon54OK, I,ve done some reading and maybe I dont get it after all .......
I took it that all of the scenes of a small girl going to girl guides, progressing into teenage years still in wholesome girl guides, then as a smoking adolescent into glamorous young woman and then in the final video scene becoming a playboy bunny girl sitting on old mens laps was the story of a pure child growing up and ending in the " debouchery" of playboy bunny. ( every parents worst nighmare in 1960 )
BUT - I,m probably reading my own interpretation into the song. BUT THATS THE WHOLE POINT !!!
Undoubtably the writers relationships with glamourous woman played a part in writing the song. When questioned in interviews he gave numerous interpretations of it over his life, some with snippets of truth and some which he admits are completely fictional. The song is like a work of abstract art. Everyone looks at it differently and draws their own conclusion.
IS THAT WHAT THE SONG IS ALL ABOUT ??? .........Either way like any great work of art it is still getting people thinking and guessing.......Very clever !
I just looked at the lyrics, without watching the video, and to me it seems more understandable. I think it is about a past relationship and metaphors are being used to sing about some of the meaningful experiences that were shared, perhaps in MacArthur Park. The song also seems to include some regret, but I'm not sure!
maybe its just a great example of songwriting when high on something?

Not to quibble, but challenges are usually created while it is the middle of the night in the US, thus I have a delay in responding.
