The much awaited little possum got out and rode on Mum's back for the first time, last night...
From the wide eyed expression I think it might have wondered what kind of world it's emerged into, ha ha...
Mum duly took it for a tour of the garden, bridges here, bridges there... there's a table and some food... that's a water dish...
Hold on tight, I have to chase this other possum away...! ha ha.
Poor little thing... talk about stepping in at the deep end... ha ha...
Last night's "other" possum is a female, too, about half way along with carrying her little one in her pouch... give it another six weeks or so and there'll be another startled looking little possum being carted around the yard, ha ha.
She might be a little round in the belly department but it doesn't mean she can't do a good job of making herself scarce when the need arises...
I've only seen her once, which doesn't mean she hasn't been here before... ha ha. When she saw Mother possum, she took off along the bridges, and knew exactly which bridges to take to make her escape... ha ha.
The advantage in being the landlady, so to speak, is that Mother has a choice of which possum house she'll sleep in...
35 degrees? Stinking hot? The larger, airy one, I think...
And when, overnight, it drops ten degrees? That one, the smaller one, the one that gets warmed by the morning sun...
I imagine it's a bit like having a bedroom on either side of the house...
Shall I sleep on the cool side or the warm side, today? ha ha.
The possum equivalent of living a life of luxury... ha ha.
