Feeding time.   That egg looks white.  It was brown speckled before.

Chicks are getting big.

8.21 pm, she has her head over her shoulder and is fast asleep...

🙂

It's been a big afternoon...

I got to meet the latest addition to the wattlebird family.

You can always tell where it is by it's incessant "Peep-peep! Peep-peep!" cry... ha ha.

I was standing next to the bird bath when it came down for a drink.

It stood on the edge of the birdbath and said "Peep!", then leant forward to have a drink...

It paused, just for a moment, beak in the water, as it took in this new discovery - you can't make "Peep-peep" noises and drink at the same time, ha ha.

Life is a beautiful journey of discovery... ha ha...

🙂

The egg is not in the corner!

It's still there, with the chicks, on the left hand side.

Update on the egg - please.

Hard to tell/see

Last I saw it, it was on the left hand side of the nest.

Looks like the growing chicks are keeping it warm for mumma.

It's under them somewhere.

It may or may not be viable.

They've also zoomed in with the camera for the weekend.

I dropped in about midday today (Saturday 5 October) and there's the egg! Brown and speckled just as it should be...

So what was the white thing in the corner?

The thing you can't see now because they've zoomed the camera...

My best guess is that it was probably a feather...

Or a chicken egg... Laid by a stealthy chicken who arrived in the small hours of the morning while everyone slept, nearly silently laid an egg and then departed, just as stealthily...

It's just a guess, mind... ha ha...

🙂

I had a quick look about 1 this afternoon, and the chicks were still alone.

One of the chicks raised it's head and I thought "Isn't it good that they get better looking as they get older?", ha ha.

There must be a Universal law that parents have to find their offspring attractive, even if the rest of us don't quite see it... ha ha...
