Oh Oh,

The Australian Red Cross has defended its decision to spend up to 10% of bushfire donations on administration costs as “essential”, but its past fundraising history shows it has previously promised to put 100% of all money raised directly to a cause.

Facing criticism from the New South Wales Liberal MP for Bega, Andrew Constance, who nearly lost his home in the fires, for taking to taking too long to distribute $115m in donations it has received since July, the charity on Thursday clarified that it would not withhold money for future disasters.

Thats I why I NEVER donate to large charities

payroll?

Admin expenses like sending people to the affected areas to talk to people, in cars that have running costs, driven by people who earn wages?

Some people here must think all the Red Cross staff are like those ladies that man the op shops i.e all volunteers. As you point out there is a mess of work evaluating all the cases. Field workers visiting claimants, in lots of cases out in the backblocks. Perhaps 4WD's are required and might have to be leased short term. Then there's the office staff at Red Cross HQ who have to process all the paperwork etc. $11 million doesn't go far if you've got a couple of hundred people on the payroll.

Understanding Administration Costs. lol

Examples of Administrative Expenses

Building rent, insurance, subscriptions, utilities, and office supplies may be classified as either a general expense or an administrative expense. Depending on the asset being depreciated, depreciation expense may be classified as a general, administrative, or selling expense.Sep 26, 2019

But they are all added expenses required to administer the donations. The Red Cross isn't a government department, they don't get money from the budget.

With all due respect Dave.

The headline was ' Admin Costs '.

$11.5 mill.

Nowhere did it state - Overall Costs.

I do understand - vehicles - fuel - people - aid.

But this was a clear - headline - Admin Costs.

You do argue ' words ' - and give awards. lol

One of many stories of people desperately needing some $$$$ so they can start to rebuild their lives   ...... so WHY are the Red X and other charities holding onto it?   Greed perhaps?  .....  People donated this money in good faith "thinking" it would go straight to those who need it   ..... Perhaps they will think again, next time this happens
