To get him assessed in Vic, start with a good chat with your GP. The children's has a dedicated autism assessment team, but it usually has a very lengthy delay.
We went private for our diagnosis. If you would like the details of our paed, then feel free to email me.
If you want to chat face to face, just contact me - I will happily come meet you. (But I must warn you that my younger boy has been sick for a month with a virus so it may be best to wait until he's better.)
You don't have to be crazy to be here, but it helps.

at least we can get him into his uniform these days (navy blue pants and blazer and tie) - was hard for many years.
still cannot give hand outs/notes on blue paper and will wear blue most times but prefers not to if has a choice.
brown - so many foods are brown - still makes it hard
still won't eat brown things - even chocolate

So I kind of wonder if our son had Aspergers wouldn't he have picked it up by now? Although he only sees us 2 or 3 times a year for about 20 mins each time.
Then someone mentioned that some people are not diagnosed with Asp until they are older - teens to adult so now I am just plain confused.
He has been diagnosed with Dyspraxia, Auditory Processing Disorder and he has one eye that turns out when he is tired (meaning by about 2pm if he's done lots of reading/writing he has trouble focusing)
So he certainly has his share of stuff going on - as well as Asthma and Eczema but with him heading off to high school next year and his growing anxiety about it I think we really should cover all our bases so to speak and see what the pead says.

Witches, people who see my grandaughter for several hours at a time do not pick up she has it, unless there is an issue happening at the time.....
My FIL says "she seems fine to me, are you sure she has that?" and I say, stick around for the day.....

What is interesting is that Aspie kids often get misdiagnosed because these other things are all traits of an apsergers child.
A diagnosis of Aspergers does not mean the other things go away.. instead it explains what is really going on in a bigger picture.

I just wanted to ask a question which I feel I may need a hard hat on to ask in an individual specific thread.
This is not Autism specific but rather Disability Service funding.
My sons letter of acceptance to Disability Services (DHD) is in the mail .
I was told to keep this in case Centrelink want to see it...
I was also told that there has been no funding for 'new' support packages in Victoria.
Does anyone know anything more about this.
