Vinyl is much easier to keep clean than carpet.

For many years when the kids where growing up we had a beautiful old stereo / radiogram on the deck out the back of the house. The teenage kids would love to have their mates come around and play mum and dads " Old Bangers " for " gaths " ( gatherings for us oldies ) Prince, Midnight Oil,  ABBA and Hoodo Gurus all got a play.

 

My son recently came and pinched a lot of my old vinyl to use as " samples " to make rap beats. Everything old is new again.

It doesn't matter what medium you use. If your system is only worth around $1000 or less, the music is going to sound 'unengaging',to use a polite term.

I still have most of the vinyl I purchased.
Some didn't make it.
I haven't bought any music since the eighties.
Never owned a CD player or anything newer.
Both my vehicles are so old that they have tape players
Lost all my tapes somehow in one of my moves.
Just listen to the radio

Those old AU Sansuis are pretty good. I uaed to have one in the '70's.
As far as hi fi goes, if you happen to be in Melbourne in October, drop in to the hi fi show. You'll be amazed at how much music you hear from a high end setup. By that I mean you'll hear stuff that cheaper setups don't reveal. And the gear on display is beautiful to look at as well.

nope, replaced everything and then some with CDs, still have em stored away.

transferred them all onto hard drive, made back ups.

play perfect every time, never wear out

I've still got all my vinyl records and even some 78s.  Also got lots of CDs.

 

Does the music sound better on vinyl?  That depends.  In the early days of CDs I bought some 'backups' of favourite records.  The sound on those CDs is well, flat, compared to their vinyl counterparts.

 

I imagine the quality has improved but a LOT also depends on the equipment you are using to play them.  I have some music stored on computer but the speakers aren't top quality. 

 

My last good stereo system bit the dust and components of it couldn't be repaired so I had to quickly buy a new one but at the time was limited by budget...and it also had to play cassettes which a lot don't.  I am not happy with it, though because I kept the old speakers its better than it should be.  However, sometime I will have the spend the money on something better.  Sigh.

 

I still buy vinyl because there's a lot of music out there that still hasn't made it to CDs and I prefer a 'hard copy' than downloads.  In any case some of them aren't on downloads either.  I collect mostly late 50s - mid 60s music with an occasional 70s or 80s purchase.
