There is always more than one way to do a thing. The mistake I think here is in thinking that the only way to draw attention to their cause was by a march.
That's wrong, there are dozens of other ways. Encouraging a march during a lock down during a pandemic is foolhardy and I think organisers of any marches should be hit with massive fines.
The problem isn't just that a few people might be killed by covid, although that is definitely now happening. The problem is also to the economy for years to come and the effect on people's jobs through having to go into a second lockdown.
Marches change perceptions of safety. You only have to look at USA though to see they are going through a surge in cases and surprise, surprise, we saw a surge a couple of weeks after all the BLM marches.
And we're seeing a surge in Vic and it really took off a couple of weeks after our BLM marches here & other social distancing fails.
No matter what the cause, there are other ways to publicise it, it doesn't have to be through a march, that's just organisers with lazy thinking, taking the easy path.
I can appreciate what you say springyzone but I think most other ways have been tried and exhausted. I'm no fan of breaking the law and I believe that the system can work for us but we need to get real good and decent people in government. Education is the key!
IMO there have only been 2 decent leaders with good hearts in Australian politics in the last 100 or so years. They were Whitlam and Fraser. Rudd wasn't too bad but he didn't have all what those 2 men had.
The marchers who were protesting against 5G were terrified of the cancer and other illnesses that 5G will bring. From what I have seen in the last 20 years, I can agree that their concerns are valid. Crud politicians won't listen to the voice of the people, they never have!
As for BLM, we are now in the year 2020 and African Americans are still being killed and murdered in a country that calls itself the greatest country on this earth. Has anyone listened to the voice of the people yet ????? Rememeber, this is 2020 where we can do heart transplants, mirco surgery in brains and other great things and yet we still see these brutal killings!
And as for Australia ...... well ..... what's changed?

True. And we wouldn't have to have BLM in the US if the Brits hadn't had the drive to colonise and use black labour to power their greed.

Where there are problems in the world, most of roads to them come from greed. Imagine if greed was taken out of the equation!

It's never going to be so realistically, you always have to factor it in.

So did a bit of reading. The Sydney BLM protest this weekend is for David Dungay Jnr, a violent criminal/Rapist. I saw the video, he was acting aggressive and lunged at the guards. This happend 5 years ago.
Seriously, why is it so hard to find a better victim to defend than this. Another black hero for the BLM to worship.
As much as think it's idiotic for anyone to choose this time to protest, I do love a bit of entertaiment. Bit of a shame it's at the expense of NSW. I can already see a surge in cases in 2 weeks time.

It is not about his crime; the point is that NOBODY should be killed by police or prison guard.
"The Dunghutti man from Kempsey died in Sydney’s Long Bay jail on 29 December 2015 after guards rushed his cell to stop him eating biscuits, dragged him to another cell, then held him face down and had him injected with a sedative. Before he died he said 12 times that he could not breathe."
Why not let police shoot any suspect on the street, like they do in Philippines; saves time and money?
