You are wrong; the countries that mandate masks have considerably better outcomes. And now many independent tests confirm that masks are helpful.
However, with so many people with no masks, all shouting in close proximity to each other, it is likely that anybody having the virus would spread it to all around him.
I stand corrected. Will minimise larger droplets but the filter is not small enough to block the passage of the virus. Throw in a few thousand people in close proximity. You're good as screwed.

The virus is in the aerosol, and as the viral load is what determines the likely severity of the disease, blocking out 85% is very desirable. Even 10% is better than nothing.
