I am also re-gluing the legs and putting a screw from inside through the piece of wood, that goes across.inside the seat frame, into the legs.
The new brackets are bit thicker too, but even the lopsided ones were rather strong. I could not budge them when I tried if I could straighten them. If I could do that it would mean that they are not strong enough, and I would not have used them anyway.

Trying to bend them up by hand is different to trying to bend them more or putting 50 plus kgs of weight on them so hopefully it all works out for you.
