Usually a magistrate is involved, but on police advice, or have no objections,  I believe

Just a general reply, not to stawka in particular, just hers was the last post.

My brother in law works ina prison and he has often said we'd all be terrified if we knew what was walking the streets. That quite a few very violent people eventually end up on parole and they are walking time bombs. He says there are as many out as are in.

General question ...

when a felon is released on bail from a cop shop who makes that decision, does anyone know?  Is it the police or is a judge involved?

In Vic if a person is before the court it would be either a magistrate of judge who would be responsible for granting bail. In an out of hours situation ie police station, it is usual for bail to be granted/refused by either a court appointed Bail Justice or Justice of the Peace. Police can oppose that  bail be/not be granted but they cant enforce it either way

I do not doubt that at all, Springyzone.

That would be a case of better in than out.

I just hope that after the guy has served his time he can become a productive member of society. The drugs are a major part of his life at the moment. The problem is that with criminals that are being sentenced they're not being looked after inside properly. And the resources are not there to manage their environment when they come out.
