Do you really think the indigenous people are upset about British history involving opium and plundering? They are upset about their history where the "conqueror" invaded their country, murdered their people and stole their land. And they are equally upset that some current Australians are proud to be associated with this history and feel no shame.

 

If there needs to be an "awakening' then we need to focus on "actual history" and recognise what and who the "conquerors" really were. We will never be "One" if we cannot understand Australian history from the experiences of the indigenous people.

You shouldn't be confused and I doubt if you really are! I'm not suggesting that indigenous Australians should concentrate on the Brits opium dealing and plundering of other countries. I'm saying though that the "here and now" is the issue! 

The awakening, the realization of what the Brits did in invading other countries, genocides, slaughter, narcotics peddling, enslavement, all for the benefit of a select minority is for non-indigenous Australians. If they see things for what they really were in the true historical sense without the manufactured pleasant veneer they may wake up to a few facts. Then they may begin to realise the plight of the indigenous Australians  At the moment many non-indigenous folk have a warm and fuzzy,  nice and sweet view of how this land was colonised / invaded.

When history is told properly, then people can deal with it correctly. People like Hanson, Howard, Reith,, Ruddock etc., etc. represent the arrogance and stupidity that masks an ongoing genocide of indigenous Australians.  Rudd and Turnbull, if they succeeded would get rid of one of the tools for the masking, namely Murdoch!
