oh wow I remember the treddle sewers too and then Mum got a more modern one with a handle thing by the knee, she was a wonderful seamstress, never had very many bought clothes in the old days

Yes the old tredles and my mother also had a Singer sewing machine with the lever by her knee.  She taught me to sew on that, although my grandmother also taught me on her tredle.
