The sniping program I used for years (although not lately as I haven't bought anything at auction for a long time) is free, no matter how many times I used it. Perhaps the rules have changed? Called Gixen. Always worked well for me.
Gixen is still good....and free. I don't bid as much these days but in a recent auction I set a snipe and it was only in the last few seconds that there were two bids. Someone either manually or by snipe set their max only 50c above the opening bid then mine kicked in at 50c higher and I won. The irony is the seller's opening amount was pretty much what the item was worth in ex condition, which is probably why it didn't attract much interest. If the opening amount had been lower it might have brought in more bidders.....and I might have had to pay more to get it.
