To get the same as before (ie registered post) you will need to purchase signature on delivery PLUS extra cover ($2.95 + $1.50 = $4.45 from April 8th)
http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/new-prices.html
Registered Post for domestic parcels included Signature on Delivery and the optional feature of Extra Cover. This service will be withdrawn from 8 April 2013. However, Registered Post products and services will still be available for standard letters.
Want the same offering as Registered Post for your parcel delivery?
Simply choose the regular product, Parcel Post, and then add Signature on Delivery or Extra Cover as optional features.
Note: Signature on Delivery can be purchased as a single feature for $2.95. If you would like Extra Cover you need to purchase both Signature on Delivery for $2.95 and Extra Cover for $1.50 per $100 value (or part thereof).
Thanks, that makes sense. So, extra cover is basically insurance against damage or loss, etc. Most parcels reach their destination, so I'm more concerned with signature on delivery which helps against fraud from claiming INR. If it was an item over $100 (as AP suggests), yeah I'd probably add the extra cover too.
