Me to, I never search for my own items so have no idea where they come in searches. It is not something I can do anything about so why bother.
I either have a good week or a bad one, overall salea are less than they were over 3 years ago but so far better than last year for the first three and a half months I have been open.
Still have a shed load of stock though which will probably have to go by the end of my next selling cycle or I will be having one heck of a garage sale lol.
I guess we are all different. It also depends on what you are selling. I am in a collectable market, and as such targets are snapped up quickly, hence having some idea of when lights are on and off is helpful. I also prefer to be in control of my own destiny, if I choose to work hard then in a level unrestricted field it should equate to better results. Equally if I choose to take a break then the results should be no sales. On eBay you can be in enforced shutdown for weeks and then suddenly you have to jump into action as it all kicks off for a few days.
As I say, we are all different, some are happy to be swept along the river where the currents take them, I prefer to have some control.
I'm also in the collectible category and never check where my listings are. I don't have a store and mostly run auctions, so worrying about best match is pointless. Most people who buy my stuff search by time ending soonest so it doesn't matter where I am in best match.
I have plenty of control over my selling. I list, buyers buy, buyers pay, I post. Yes, I have the odd quiet week here and there but mostly my sales are consistent. I use the odd quiet week to catch up on things, like taking photos for new listings, or just having a breather.
I have plenty of competition from both here and overseas, and even though a lot of my items are priced higher than there's as a start bid, I sell more than a lot of them. Those sellers are both stores and non stores, auctions and BIN's.
Some weeks I wish things would slow down because having a full time job off eBay, often it's hard to keep up with the packing and posting side of things. I'm just lucky that Mr Tippy is happy to post for me if I can't do it.
I used to slog my guts out in the early days. Every non working waking moment was spent on eBay. I sell more now that I have learned to relax a bit than I was back then. Feedback had nothing to do with it. I had over 1,000 feedback when I started to sell.
