Any seller who is numpty enough to leave false pos feedback does themselves, and other sellers, a grave disservice.
Only according to a very, very few posters who just happen to be highly active on the buying/selling discussion boards, however overtime, whilst I am not such a prolific poster, I have viewed numerous threads and posts from a far wider range of sellers on this topic who IMO would strongly disagree that they are doing a disservice to other sellers.

a class action against them needs to be started over there dishonesty and denial of free speech.

Well, they are doing a disservice to me. All my items are BIN (except for a couple). I have no opportunity to vet buyers pre-sale. A strike, however, benefits me as they can't buy.
They work, too. Had a 2000+ FB blocked the other month, so even high level of feedback doesn't guarantee they're not a NPB.

How are they not making it harder for the rest of us? Every time they do this they run the risk of the unpaid item strike being removed so the buyer is no longer blocked from transacting with my selling ids?

I actually have a lower percentage of non payers now than I did when sellers could leave negs as in those dark days there was no way to block non payers en mass.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.

Ebay believe that people are basically good. There is no bad people.
That is why sellers can only give positive feedback. It is impossible for buyers to be bad. 😉

OP's non-paying buyer has had numeous "negative positives". If all sellers had opened an Unpaid Item Dispute, the Buyer would have been a NRU by now.

Mmm IMO cloud cookoo land is more likely to be inhabitated by those who give carpy advice on these boards such as encouraging negs over imaginary issues.
As I have previously posted having confirmed with ebay - leaving feedback for a NP buyer does not negate a strike - the two systems are not linked.
Also, a wide range of sellers have also reported on these boards that whilst they may have left feedback for a NPB, they have also given a strike.

But, as phorum has already pointed out, leaving a false positive is the equivalent cutting off your own nose to spite your face.
What point is there for a seller to get THEMSELVES restricted due to policy violations?
a) You leave a false positive.
b) Buyer reports you, and the feedback is removed.
c) Seller gets a policy violation against their account.
Net result = no "warning feedback" remains on Buyer's feedback, and a genuine risk of teh seller (not the buyer) being restricted.
In fact, it's actually a breach of THESE forums as well - the posts that recommend it can be reported for "Encouraging Violations"
(yes, I realise what thecatspjs wrote in post #7 above, and many others too - this comment is directed at others who are reading this thread)

I suppose its a bit the same as posting comments to the discussion boards that could be removed for breaching ebay policy too. Posters still do it.
In relation to feedback - IMO what comments are "negative" is subjective and not also so clear cut as some posters make out. Much the same as when sellers seek feedback removal themselves. Its all subjective, and ebay's call - not the posters on these boards.
I think it is good to discuss on these boards the pros and cons of the current ebay feedback system - with all the different perspectives reflected. It also creates awareness for new sellers reading the boards of the non-payment system including strikes.

Buyers feedback would be better a separate number indicating number of purchases made & paid -as its its simply an indicator of the buyer's likely level of experience of purchasing on ebay.
