Hi,
I recently sold some jewellery boxes to the US (Hawaii) for $40.
I can't seem to find a reasonable shipping quote anywhere.
The package weighs approx 1.5 kilos
43cm in length x19cm height x 16cm in width
Australia post has quoted me $64
If I send it by sea it will cost $38 & take 2 month to get there
(I will have to make it heavier to get this option)
Couriers Please $94
The package weighs approx 1.5 43cm in length x 19cm height x 16cm width
The customer has told me they bought similar items before from UK - their shipping total was $9.00.
From Russia $28.00. She also mentioned that she shipped previously a hugh amount of stuff from Australia in a crate
for $100 (incuding furniture)
Is there any company out there that can do this at a reasonable rate?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

I think they are pulling your leg .
If they wont fork out the actual postage costs , Id wouldnt bother with the deal and move on.

@retrogirl*cowrote:

I just love it when people query my postage prices and say "but it is / was $X from [some other country]".
I'm tempted to say things like - "gosh, that sounds great, maybe I should move there so we can take advantage of those low postage rates, because they're certainly not offered by any company here".
It happens all the time - just people thinking they can compare two completely different things as if you can magically do something about a postal service's prices. I also get people pull out the old "but I've sent heaps of packages to Australia and it's only taken X time, so your package from Aus to US should be here by now". Flawless logic.
I would be asking them what company they used to get large furniture items overseas for $100 - if she was genuine, she'll be able to give you a legit name, and surely that will help you both if they can do it for cheaper? ![]()

I dont believe there are any cheap options - apart from sea mail which you have mentioned - for sending stuff from Australia.
I used to buy the odd thing from the US - some sellers used to send from there via international priority pre paid satchel for smaller items (up to about a kilo ithink) which was very cheap. I dont believe there is any such similar service from Australia - and certainly none fo cheap that would give you any level of seller protection.
If your buyer doesnt like the postage charges imposed by Auspost then dont sell to them.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
I did ask query the company name but she couldn't recall who it was.
So I think I'll just send her a cancel notice.

I would not hesitate to cancel the transaction.
It has started off badly, which to me is an indication to expect further problems.
