If it's the policy I'm thinking of, the way I read it the extra 1% only applies if you use an international credit card (i.e you are located in Australia but are using a card issued by an American financial institution for whatever reason).

Yep, so the fees and charges now read that if you are sending a payment and fund it with a credit or debit card, there will be a 2.4% processing fee (plus fixed fee), but if the payment is funded by an international credit or debit card, it's an extra 1%.

It's a bit unclear how that applies to commercial transactions, though, because it says "If you are a sender registered in Australia and you fund your payment entirely or partially by international debit or credit card, you will incur an additional 1% processing fee on the amount funded by that card" but it has it under the receiver section in the fee table, and of course the receiver doesn't fund the payment. o_O

If you're the receiver in a commercial transaction, the 2.4% and fixed fee is taken from the payment total and the sender doesn't incur any direct charges from PayPal, so I guess they mean if your buyer uses an international card it will cost the seller an extra 1% ?:| (For a personal transaction, the sender can choose who pays the fees, but in a commercial transaction it's always taken from the receiver's total).

What is the definition of an "international debit or credit card"?

 

If indeed the seller has to pay a 1% fee too when a buyer uses an international card, I wonder if it just evens out. E.g. the buyer pays the 1% extra (if it does to the seller) and the seller pays the 1% extra fee back to PayPal... who knows. Maybe both fees just go to PP.

Ebay fees ARE too much now.. like everybody.. its getting harder and harder to make an living. its not just the Shops that are doing it tough with  landlords that are being pressured to increase rents to to common power cost increases, rates increases, carbon tax, insurance etc.. all USELESS fees.. that don't produce a thing.. yet ebay thinks a 100% store increase come sept 15 is justified because "online retailing is growing".. well it wil GROW regardless of ebay .. and without my local input now too after 3-4 years.. not that we sold much or wanted too but it helped publise it a bit. but not worth . $49.80 or so a month..up 100% from $24.95... PLUS.. listing fees, selling fees, paypal fees..  For petes sake.. they are taking like 20% off the top of smaller sales.. and there is not 20% to take..

Figure.. if we only sell 2-4 things for say $400 total in a store with 30-40 items.. we are monitored for identification of ourselves.. can't give out phone #'s or email... its not worth the trouble.. there WAS a time .. it was easy to work with ebay..but not anymore. not in Australia.

Ebay.. PULL YOU BELT IN TOO.. (not shouting..)..everybody is doing it tough.. your rank & file staff as well... so make us proud.. and reduce the fees.. INVITE particapation not counter it wtih greed. Macquarie Bank just had to reduce all Sydney Airport fees and carpark charges.. now give away cups of coffee and a paper for those taking up the cheaper parking because.. people voted with their feet.. or in my case.. just closed the account.. not worth the trouble..

Pitty nobody in any power level or with balls will read  this at ebay management.. Greed it NOT good..

I bet you didn't even bother to read the fee section when listing. I think you mean $1020 not $102.
