Make sure you are signed up for managed payments or you'll never see your money.
If you feel that the ebay fees on item/postage etc are a bit much, you can always bump up the price of your items slightly to cover any fees.
If you really don't want to post, if all your items are going to be pick up, you may be better advertising on facebook marketplace. I don't know what you had listed but from what others have said, it sounds as if they may have been quality items. Marketplace has categories eg for antiques or collectibles.
I even know of one person who put up a couple of chairs for sale and by the end of the day, had had offers to buy at twice the price. Not that that happens for most items!
I think if items are small and can be posted though, you are probably going to get more potential buyers on ebay as not everyone likes to pick up and some people, even if they would love to, just live too far away. Good luck.
