I received a (completely unfair, I tell you) policy violation on one of my long-standing listings yesterday, and while it was for a different matter, and my approach was rather more focussed on trying to get eBay to see that their policy was applied to me incorrectly, but this is what talking to them about such matters is like (with apologies to those for whom this is a rehashing of a rant ranted elsewhere):
Step One - Get the violation notice
Step Two - Decide it's been issued unfairly and that you're going to do something about it
Step Three - Plead your case to eBay
Step Four - Plead your case to eBay (who point blank refuse to understand logic)
Step Five - Try to understand eBay's logic
Step Six - Do something to relieve some of the tension
Step Seven - Repeat steps 1 through 6 until you're ready for step Eight
Step Eight - Acceptance
