I have many times issued a refund to a buyer then sent a request to cancel the transaction through the 'resolve a problem' link. I click on the link to 'I sold an item and want to cancel the transaction' - that takes me to the page where I select the reason for the cancellation and that's all there is to it.

 

I don't find that very complicated at all - it couldn't be simpler. I can't understand what 'six steps' you're talking about - it only takes me two clicks - about 30 seconds.
