It has certainly caused a knee jerk reaction - as is apparent by the amount of people on the AC and here complaining how long it takes to change their password - eBay are inundated it seems with this request.

However, as Dave said, it happenned months ago, and while it is still most prudent to change PW it is a little like closng the stable door after the horse has bolted.

The fact that eBay witheld the info until now does suggest fear of this very thing (buyer confidence smashed) happenning may have played a part in that very 'immoral' decision.

I am quite certain one of the many 'fine print' clauses we agreed to when signing in on eBay would be Duty of Disclosure, which they have blatantly ignored.

But - it is eBay afterall, and they haven't done many favours lately to it's members, so a small matter of breach of contract is hardly likely to cause them any sleepless nights. LOL

I read that in the U.K. EBay is facing a half million pound fine. Which equated to 2 pence each for the British.

Buttercup: You mock my pain! Man in Black: Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

Hacking news is only reletavaly new. My sales were obly a fifth of where they should have been. The next few days will tell if it was coincidence or not.

In dollar terms we are down 2/3 of our normal 30 day cycle, in items sold we are down 1/3 of our normal 30 day cycle.

I put that down to "just how it is" may be it's not.

Sorry to Throw a Pessimistic 'Oil' on Your Fire but Consider the Following: The Global Economic Climate (Including a lot of Redundancies and Sackings in the 'Lucky Country', the Price of Our Larger Source of Revenues, Our Ressources -e.g. Iron Ore, etc...-  Going Down, etc...) + Cost of Living going UP and UP and UP... + AN OUTRAGEOUS TOXIC BUDGET -Designed by the Rich, For the the Rich- + eBay Fees on Postage + Hacking of eBay's Customers accounts + Platform Privileging Chinese and Other Asian -or Otherwise- Junk = AWESOME RECESSION on the Way, Won't Take Long, a 'Classic' Situation, Really... And eBay Sellers Will be at the Forefront of the Damage, Many of Us DO NOT Sell 'Essential' Goods... Wait and see, Things Are Not Going to Improve...

That sums it up.

I'm stockpiling goods until Labor get back in. Maybe by then ebay's suicide will be complete and we'll have a new player.
Ebay is like some sort of junkie where the drug is money and the dose they need is more and more and they have to steal now to get high. With the fee grab, ibbott the winker, Google search priorities. I'm having to stuff around silly to make a few dollars on little things. those of you not in the social media hype aer missing out on a fee free person to person selling platform via Facebook groups for example. That's the future Ebay is the past.

I noticed a decline in sales as soon as the TV NEWS STATIONS (I have foxtel and it was news on many different pay and free channels.)  NEWS PAGES on the web and of course the NEWSPAPERS, I immediately changed my passwords but in the last week my sales dropped 75%. It is obvious that this has directly affected sales.

I believe that no financial details have been compromised but our identity details have been. I can easily change my passwords for ebay... not so easy to change my name, birthdate, address and phone numbers though. I can understand people reluctance this week to buy on ebay, identity theft is a major concern in our digital life.

Of course any downturn in sales is eBay's fault. Even if those who bring it to the boards are talking a period of days, and would not consider it might be a combination of many factors.

The hack and some parts of the media labeling it as "fraud" didn't help.

Also, consumer confidence has been down since a week or so prior to the federal budget.

Both of these factors will need a few weeks to level out again.

My sales are down around 50%!

But that's business!

Blame the hacker's, and the people with short term memories that seem to think LNP governments are good - until they get in again!
