Thanks Pip, from previous discussions I thought we had a Japanese copy, probably because of the different colours it has been painted.  As you all know Kooka's are "my thing", see them, buy them, pay up, and worry about their "parentage" later, so long as they are not "butt ugly" and the price is what I can afford at the time, then I will have them.

Will be interested to have a good look and feel of the beak when I finally find him and get him unpacked again.  At present  I have no idea where any of the kookas are.

I also have one that looks a bit like the Japanese ones.  As is usual for me, just at present, it is packed away somewhere, don't know if I have a picture, suspect it could also be Japanese.  Though now that I think about it, the painting and colours look a little more refined or subdues maybe.  Will have a look for a photo.  Don't hold your breath.

The first one that you mentioned Wyvern is Japanese 1408 etc. I was in his shop about 3 weeks ago and told the chap that it was not Newtone as he described it and he believed me.

However the second one 2511 etc. Is actually Bouquet Ware, it is Aussie and is actually very cheap and desirable for that price. I have several but would honestly recommend it to any Kooka buyer,

$95.00 is cheap for that one? I decided mine was a japanese one after the last thread but now I am not sure. It is the same as that last one!

I also have a pink log in the same mold with attached flowers and a Rawson Art Pottery sticker.

I am really pleased to have joined this discussion as I have never owned a Daisy Merton Kookaburra until this afternoon until an absolutely lovely lady dropped one into me knowing I had admired hers and she is de-cluttering.  It is not signed DVMerton but it has the black stamps both Hand Painted and Newtone Pottery.  It is one part of a bookend or perhaps just a figurine. Did these even come as pairs?   This one has a painted hooked beak & the white glaze on the gum nuts & body of the bookend is heavy and more textured rather than a high gloss.

Yes they came as pairs of bookends....but one is better than none. Of this type...I have none.

Another member of the team....posters, boardie. rcsales has a true pair. They have been featured here before.
