Please don't rub things out. If it is pencil (as you suggest) then you should be able to tell easily with a magnifying glass. Try making some pencil marks of your own and see whether they look the same. Mechanical printing will have a uniformity quite different to pencil drawing.  Emanuel would have done many hundreds of different images, especially of popular Sydney spots.
