I'd say they probably are genuine, they may be different to the original photo because they're a different type, maybe old stock or something.

Since neither eBay or Paypal will help you, perhaps try contacting Alpinestar directly and show them with photos what the problem is ( + the boot size), and maybe they could send you another toe protector that you could attach yourself. Otherwise a good cobbler may well be able to do something with them.
