I don't use the promoted items but I am seeing the same thing.

Sales are way down and I am thinking it is because the economy is taking a huge nose dive. People are simply not buying at the moment, apart from essential items.

I am also hearing people don't have much left out of their pay once they have paid their rent/mortgage and food.  Add the expenses with children and petrol / public transport and there simply isn't much left.

Maybe someone a bit wiser may have some answers with the promoted items.
