The sheet idea is good but it's even better if you wet a towel (it stays wet longer), add a wet facewasher over your eyes/forehead and direct the fan on to your body. Might have to get up a couple of times during the night but at least you keep cooler.
We haven't had our hot days yet, well I guess a couple of weeks ago it was a bit warm for a couple of days but nothing really blerk.

I like to acclimatize a bit first before being thrown into the deep end. It's a bit of a shock to the system.
I am using some of Karen's tips

I bought a thing on eBay for the heat, a few years ago. It's like a material tube filled with those water crystal things....you soak it in water and it stays cool for hours, around your neck. I had to stop using it because I couldn't work out how to wash it...also, a sarong is easier.

Another trick is to put the garden hand hose spray thing on "mist"...it only requires the slightest amount of water (but I do get the occasional glare lol) and prop it up on the lawn upwind of where you like to sit...OMG..it's like an outdoor air conditioner, just perfect. The birds like swooping through it, too.
If you wear your wet sarong over your head and a water tube around your neck, the passers by will be too chicken to glare lol.
