it's a laser pointer.

There are no moving parts though...

That sounds like a pretty good guess Deb.

I'm wondering why the felt pouch.  It makes it seem like some kind of cosmetic appliance.

Joono

There's a little button under the clip.

my old tyre pressure guage was rounded at one end and the guage part could be pulled up out of the top if you had the nails to grab it it hard enough. I did have the same clip and came in a black velvet pouch though...

What we see as the "nib area" is the part put on the valve.

The other end pushes out to indicate the pressure when it is applied.

Like everyone else I'm guessing.

I get what you mean Deb, but I think the bit that goes on the valve

is a fatter shape and on an angle

The gauge will only come out under pressure^^

I'm sticking with some kind of pen/nib.  Why would it have a pocket clip otherwise?

google pocket magnetic pickup tool.

if its a pen/nib and there are no moving parts

where would the ink go?

Dip pens don't have an ink reservoir.  You 'dip' them in the inkwell and write.

Used to use them myself - back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Dip pens are also on google   : - )
