exactly my point and I don't believe for one second that a lot of the complaints have anything to do with cost, just more Islamaphobia. Good luck to those who will no longer be buying Halal food, let us all know how that goes.....Woman LOL

Is there any rice that is Haram? Could be a little niche market there - rice grown in alcohol or maybe animal blood...mmmmm.

Whatever, I will not contribute to mass murder or cruelty to animals, ever.

i see so that's where the confusion came from and

you posting the mostly irrelevant food list lol

what i see on this thread are comments with specific

reasons as to why some oppose payments for the accreditation and ritual slaughter.

no one suggested they would boycott all food that Muslims consider permissible

I really don't get why anyone thinks stunning an animal to kill it is less painful than bleeding to death.

Having lived on a farm most of my life and having been both a producer of beef and pork for the meat market, I have seen first hand, abattoir practices and farm kills.

and yet where is the proof of these terribly inflated costs, not the dubious anti Islam links already provided. If it is purely about cost then why not mention boycotting organic, heart smart, low fat, free range....all these practices mean higher cost to the consumer, why is the food listed irrelevent - it is Halal, that is relevant - thread heading.. Halal Choices. Woman LOLWoman LOLWoman LOLWoman LOLWoman LOLWoman LOL

From a Jewish perspective ----and this is just in regard to non-meat products ie not getting into the abatoir situation---

The Kosher Authority are interested in giving accrediation to factories and specific products in order for Jews to know what can and can't be eaten by us

There are 2 levels:

1) The Kosher Authority would like to approve a product or set of products and asks the factory to allow our certifiers in, in order to see the ingredients and process. In this case, the factory is not charged anything at all, whether or not the product is certified in the end.

2) Sometimes a businnes/factory/compay will approach the Kosher Authority and ask for certification.- it obviously helps their business case. In this case, the entity is charged a fee

Any money made from this second scenario pays for the running of the Kosher Authority itself as well as the supervisors wages. None of this is paid towards synagogues or other entities.

Don't you realise that there is a plenty of cruelty to farm animals in Australia.  The way they are kept, especially pigs, and transported and handled in the feed lots, and then in abattoirs.  People do not work in slaughterhouse because they love animals.  And poor chickens for meat are selectively bred to be so big that by the age of 6 weeks that their bones cannot carry them, and then are killed.

the Halal meat which according to the magazine you cited is for export, so exactly what costs for Aussie consumers?

thanks for that great site, also a very interesting article about an Aussie company....great news, maybe some jobs there for Australia...

An Australian developer and manufacturer of sustainable plastics and packaging has received Halal certification for a new range of resins.

Cardia Managing Director Dr Frank Glatz said the certification, announced today on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), is a “commercial milestone” for the company.

“It significantly increases our ability to drive sales as we are able to appeal to a further 1.6 billion potential customers,” he said.
