This is another idea I'll probably never quite get around to following through on.

(I made it in 2011, that says a lot for how long it's been sitting on the shelf, waiting... Smiley LOL).

This is a pecking birds toy; the "make it and see how it works" model.

The idea is to hold the bottom stick steady and slide the top stick from left to right, to make the birds move.

Maybe, rather than pecking birds, I could make a pair of dancing cockatoos instead.

(Like all the other things I intend to get around to, but somehow never do because life has a habit of getting in the way, it's a matter of I'll see how I go).

I had one that worked on the same principle

 

It was a man and a bear chopping a block of wood with axes.

 

Hand carved in Germany.   Darned kids broke it for me
