It wasn't pink when I visited in 2003.    Disappointing.

 

Scientists are working on why it stopped being pink, it seems.

You weren’t wearing your special rose-coloured glasses. 

 

 

Well, hopefully it will be pink again one day!

Pink lakes are usually pink due to high salinity and the bacteria and algae that LOVE salt. They can lose their colour if the salinity drops due to rainfall or salt harvesting. Usually they will regain their colour during drier periods when the concentration of salt increases.
